21 Jul 2014
Tamika Lawrence, who plays Elena in the new Broadway musical If/Then, makes her New York City solo concert debut July 21 at 54 Below.
The Slay with Tamika Lawrence, according to press notes, "is an evening oozing with rock/funk/soul realness. Filled with performances of not-so-typical rock/funk/soul songs, from not-so-typical artists (T.Rex, Guns and Roses, Betty Davis, Van Halen) to fit her not-so-typical voice and style, you've never seen a concert like this before. Get ready for a rock concert that will melt faces."
The 9:30 PM concert features musical direction by Damien Bassman and a band including Craig Magnano, Alan Stevens Hewitt and Drew Coles.
Lawrence has also been seen on Broadway in The Book of Mormon and Matilda as well as the 2011 Off-Broadway revival of Rent.

Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
