Laurie Beechman's debut solo album is a stunning collection of power ballads and anthems showcasing her dynamic voice and strong spirit. Beechman is in exemplary form here, from the disc’s opening title tune (the David Friedman cabaret classic), three performances of 1980s Broadway hits ("Unexpected Song," "I Dreamed A Dream" and "Memory"), which give their originators a run for their money, through to the climactic penultimate number, “Here Is The Heart,” a soulful pop aria by Dreamgirls team Tom Eyen and Henry Krieger, which Beechman mines for every drop of feeling. Other favorite tracks include Stephen Sondheim's "Everybody Says Don't," Burt Bacharach's "Anyone Who Had A Heart," a medley of Noel Coward's "Sail Away" with Tom Waits' "Shiver Me Timbers" and the theme from TV's "The Great American Hero," "Believe It Or Not." This is an album to treasure.
