The Tony-winning musical In the Heights will play its final performance at the Richard Rodgers Theatre Jan. 9, 2011, at 7 PM.

When it closes, the production will have played 29 previews and 1,185 regular performances.

To celebrate the end of its three-year run, original star and co-creator Lin-Manuel Miranda will return to his Tony-nominated role of Usnavi for the final two weeks of the Broadway run, Dec. 25-Jan. 9, 2011.

The cast currently features Jordin Sparks, Kyle Beltran, Andréa Burns, Marcy Harriell, Priscilla Lopez, Olga Merediz, Rick Négron, Clifton Oliver, Courtney Reed, Jon Rua and Shaun Taylor-Corbett with Sharona D’Ornellas, Rosie Lani Fiedelman, Rubén Flores, Marcus Paul James, Jennifer Locke, Doreen Montalvo, Noah Rivera, Eliseo Román, Gabrielle Ruiz, Marcos Santana, Rickey Tripp, Willis White, Michael Balderrama, Blanca Camacho, Allison Thomas Lee, Alejandra Reyes, Alicia Taylor Tomasko and Daniel J. Watts.

After a six-month, award-winning Off-Broadway run in 2007, In the Heights began previews on Broadway Feb. 14, 2008. The musical opened on Broadway March 9, 2008, and recouped its $10 million investment in ten months.

With a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and conceived by composer-lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda, In the Heights is directed by Thomas Kail.

In the Heights, according to the producers, "tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood — a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind."

The musical is the winner of four 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Lin-Manuel Miranda won the 2008 Tony for Best Music and Lyrics, Andy Blankenbuehler won the 2008 Tony for Best Choreography, and Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman won the 2008 Tony Award for Best Orchestrations.

In the Heights is produced by Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller, Jill Furman Willis, Sander Jacobs, Robyn Goodman/Walt Grossman, Peter Fine and Sonny Everett/Mike Skipper with associate producers Ruth Hendel and Harold Newman.
