Industry Readings of Drew Overcash's Boys Vs. Girls, With Adam Kaplan and More, Held March 25; Josh Rhodes Directs
25 Mar 2014
Last Call Theatricals presents 75-minute, industry-only presentations of the new musical Boys Vs. Girls, written by Drew Overcash and helmed by Josh Rhodes (Cinderella), March 25 at Pearl Studios in Manhattan.
Directed and choreographed by Rhodes with musical direction by William Demaniow, the 12:30 PM and 3:30 PM presentations feature Carla Stickler (Wicked, Mamma Mia!), Brent Diroma (Jersey Boys, Avenue Q), Billy Harrigan Tighe (Pippin, Wicked, La Cage aux Folles), Adam Kaplan (Newsies) and Merissa Czyz (Hair).
Boys Vs. Girls, according to press notes, "takes a look at how boys and girls react differently to the situations of love, loss, sex and identity during high school. It is not the literal act of boys and girls attacking one another, but rather the psychological differences going head to head. It also pays homage to the films of the 90's romantic comedy genre in its speech and humor. After their mother's death, Adam, the popular class president, and his twin sister Katie, the loner, tutor girl have driven themselves into completely different worlds. When Katie starts to tutor Adam's friend and class stud Daniel Fallon, the twin’s lives collide. They are forced to not only come to terms with each other, but with themselves."
Overcash's music has been heard around New York City at venues such as The Highline Ballroom, Joe's Pub, The Pershing Square Signature Center, 54 Below, Birdland and (le) Poisson Rouge. His other musicals, Joe, To You With Love, Rhapsody and 13 Miles, are all currently in development.
