The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space at WNYC and WQXR presents "Inside Look: Chaplin," a conversation and performance with the stars and artistic team of the new Broadway musical hosted by WQXR's Elliott Forrest, Oct. 5 in NYC.
The 5 PM event, which will also be live-streamed at TheGreenSpace.org, features Rob McClure, who leads the cast as Charlie Chaplin; Jenn Colella, who stars as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper; and Tony Award winner Thomas Meehan, who co-wrote the musical's book alongside Christopher Curtis.
Here's how the new Broadway musical is characterized: "From the slums of London to the heights of Hollywood, Chaplin is the showbiz Broadway musical about the silent film legend the world couldn’t stop talking about – Charlie Chaplin. The brand new 24-person musical reveals the man behind the legend, the undeniable genius that forever changed the way America went to the movies."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
