Casting has been announced for Irish Repertory Theatre's It's a Wonderful Life, The 1946 Live Radio Play, beginning Off-Broadway Dec. 5 prior to its Dec. 10 opening on Irish Repertory Theatre's intimate second stage, the W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre.

"Set in a radio station in the 1940s, with a busy live sound FX artist and six actors playing 25 characters, this poignant Christmas drama comes vividly to life," IRT promises. Artistic director Charlotte Moore (Dancing at Lughnasa, New Girl in Town) directs.

The cast includes Rory Duffy, Katie Fabel, Kristin Griffith, Ian Holcombe, Peter Maloney and Max Gordon Moore. Production stage manager is Michael Palmer. The production's live sound design is by Zach Williamson.

The radio play draws from the Frank Capra film of the same name, about a guardian angel who shows desperate George Bailey how valuable he is, on Christmas Eve.

The radio play was adapted by Anthony E. Palermo from the screenplay by Francis Goodrich, Albert Hackett, Frank Capra and Jo Swerling.

Performances continue to Dec. 30. Irish Rep is at 132 W. 22nd Street.

Also at The Irish Repertory Theatre, beginning previews Nov. 29 on its Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage, is Phil Coulter in The Songs I Love So Well, continuing through Dec. 30. Brian Friel's The Freedom of the City continues to Nov. 25 on the mainstage. Julian Sands in A Celebration of Harold Pinter continues in the studio to Nov. 30.
