Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch Join Forces at Birdland for the First Time Tonight
11 Aug 2014
Jim Caruso, seen on Broadway in Liza's at the Palace…, and performer and musical supervisor Billy Stritch will play Birdland Aug. 11 at 7 PM.
According to press notes, "For the first time in their eleven-year association with Birdland, Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch will storm the historic stage with an evening of swinging standards, special guests and wry conversation. The two performers, who have performed extensively on their own, gained national exposure together as the host and musical director of the wildly popular open mic, Cast Party, which celebrates talent every Monday at Birdland, tours nationally, and was part of this season's Lincoln Center American Songbook."
Caruso and Stritch have headlined at Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle Hotel, where they have been joined by special guests Liza Minnelli, Bono and Michael Feinstein.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
