John Cameron Mitchell, Justin Vivian Bond and Amber Martin are among the artists who will take part in the 2013 Provincetown Afterglow Festival, which will kick off Sept. 9 with a variety show that includes all festival artists as well as special guest stars.
Running through Sept. 15, the annual festival is conceived by Mitchell and Quinn Cox. Afterglow offers a mix of established and under-the-radar performers who push the boundaries of innovative art.
Participating artists include authors and astrological consultants Stella Starsky and Quinn Cox, Matt Ray, Dan Fishback, Chris Tyler, Santiago Venegas, Becky Eklund, Bond (Kiki & Herb: Alive on Broadway), Joseph Keckler, Lady Rizo, Yair Evnine, Ray Rizzo, Molly Pope, Max Steele, Erin Markey, Mike Albo, Martin, Brett Every, Nath Ann Carrera, Jill Pangallo (directed by Mike Albo), Penny Arcade, Lance Horne with featured singers, Mitchell (The Secret Garden, Big River, Six Degrees of Separation), Parker Posey (Taller Than a Dwarf), MATTACHINE, Angela Di Carlo, Paul Dawson and PJ DeBoy.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
