The Drama League features Tony Award-nominated actor Jonathan Groff and Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer in its Up Close series Feb. 17 at 7 PM at the Drama League Theater Center in Tribeca.
Here's how the event is billed: "The director and star of the Tony Award-winning Spring Awakening reunite to catch up, share experiences, and discuss their latest projects. Well-known for his roles on the hit television series 'Glee' and 'Boss,' Jonathan Groff has a busy new year: the recent Disney animated hit 'Frozen,' his new HBO series 'Looking,' and the upcoming TV adaptation of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart. Mr. Mayer will share glimpses from his work on the upcoming Broadway musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, starring Neil Patrick Harris."
Groff, a Tony Award nominee for Spring Awakening, has also performed in In My Life. His film credits include "C.O.G." and "Taking Woodstock." He can currently be seen in the new HBO series "Looking."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
