Directed by David Green with music direction by Dennis Buck, the five-member cast features Nick Wyman and Liam Forde (who replaces the previously announced Claybourne Elder), with Judy Kaye and Alexandra Silber as the six wives, and Alexander Gemignani as Henry VIII. Show time is 7:30 PM.
Six Wives features book and lyrics by Joe Masteroff and music by Edward Thomas. The musical, according to the York, "tells the story of Henry VIII, the larger-than-life English monarch, and the six extraordinary women he married: Anne Boleyn, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, Katherine of Aragon, Jane Seymour, and Katherine Parr. This five-person musical reexamines Henry VIII's historical image from a modern day perspective—with two women playing all six wives." York produced the world premiere in 1992.
This production will be recorded for release on the JAY Records label. The cast will head into the recording following the York concert.
"Janet Hayes Walker produced the premiere production of this show in 1992 and we were very proud of it,” said producing artistic director Morgan in an earlier statement. “It has had too few productions over the years because not enough people know of it; with any degree of luck this concert evening and subsequent recording will change all that. Nothing would make us happier."
Tickets are priced at $50 and are available by calling (212) 935-5820, or in person at the box office at the York Theatre at Saint Peter’s. For more information visit yorktheatre.org.
