Singer-actress Julie Halston will offer a month-long engagement of her one-woman show, Classical Julie, beginning March 4 at Birdland as part of the Broadway at Birdland concert series.
Presented as a one-night-only evening in July at Birdland, Classical Julie returns for Monday nights at 7 PM throughout the month of March. Performances will be held March 4, 11, 18 and 25.
Classical Julie, according to press notes, "offers classic Halston rants (New York Times wedding announcements and Joan Crawford, among them) along with brand new material, including her — brace yourselves! — fresh takes on Shakespeare, Ibsen and other writers of considerable renown."
Halston was Drama Desk-nominated for her performances in The Divine Sister, White Chocolate and Red Scare on Sunset. Her Broadway credits include Anything Goes, Twentieth Century, Gypsy, Hairspray, The Women and The Man Who Came to Dinner.
Birdland is located at 315 West 44th Street. Tickets are $35-25 plus a $10 food/drink minimum. For reservations, call (212) 581-3080 or visit BirdlandJazz.com.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
