Kara Lindsay Will Play Final Performance in Disney's Newsies; Liana Hunt Will Succeed Original Star
31 Jan 2014
Kara Lindsay, who originated the role of headstrong, female journalist Katherine Plumber in the hit Disney musical Newsies, will play her final performance Feb. 2 at the Nederlander Theatre, producers announced Jan. 31. Liana Hunt will graduate to the starring role.
"To all the wonderfully amazing Newsies Fansies...I wanted to let you know that Sunday, February 2nd will be my last show at Newsies," Lindsay tweeted Jan. 30. "I cannot thank you enough for your generous support and love throughout these two years. The letters, the gifts, the tweets, and smiles have filled my heart with so much joy! It's meant more to me than you will ever know. You are so very special. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart."
Hunt, who will begin performances Feb. 3, previously played Sophie in Mamma Mia! (Broadway and national tour) and Eponine in Les Misérables and Belle in Beauty and the Beast regionally. She joined the Newsies company (in the ensemble and understudying the role of Katherine) in February 2013.
Lindsay, who was also seen in the world premiere of Little House on the Prairie, originated the role of Katherine when the musical premiered in 2011 at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
