25 Nov 2013
"Kirstie," the new TV Land series that casts comedic actress Kirstie Alley as a Tony-winning Broadway star, will premiere on the cable network Dec. 4 at 10 PM ET; check local listings.
Former "Cheers" star Alley also executive produces the comedy. The cast also features Rhea Perlman (“Cheers”), Michael Richards (“Seinfeld”) and Eric Petersen (Shrek: The Musical).
"After years of unbridled hedonism, drinking and sleeping her way up and down Broadway," press notes state, "the life of Tony®-winning diva Madison Banks (Kirstie Alley) takes a surprising turn when she meets up with Arlo Barth (Eric Petersen), the son she gave up for adoption 26 years ago. Maddie has played countless roles on stage, but the one part she's not ready to play is mother.
"But with the help of her long-suffering assistant and best friend Thelma Katz (Rhea Pearlman) and her eccentric chauffeur Frank Baxter (Michael Richards), Maddie realizes that Arlo is a diamond in the rough and invites him to move into her swanky New York City apartment. Much drama—and lots of comedy—ensues!"
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
