Laura Benanti, Robin De Jesus, Todd Buonopane and More Join Broadway Battles Bullying Benefit
04 Apr 2014
Tony Award winner Laura Benanti, two-time Tony Award nominee Robin De Jesus, Todd Buonopane and Mykal Kilgore have joined the lineup for Broadway Battles Bullying, a benefit to raise funds for the Michael Morones Foundation, which will take place April 14 at the Skirball Center.
Shakina Nayfack will host the 7 PM evening of song.
The benefit and the foundation it supports were created following the attempted suicide of 11-year-old North Carolina student Michael Morones, who was severely bullied by his fellow classmates for his love of the My Little Pony television series. Morones, who attempted to hang himself, was found in time to save his life, but is currently undergoing intensive rehab due to the severity of the brain damage he sustained. He will need ongoing managed care for the rest of his life.
The mission of the Michael Morones Foundation is to educate communities about youth suicide prevention and the effects of bullying.
Concert tickets are priced $40–$90. In addition, VIP tickets, priced $150-$500, are also available. Visit broadwaybattlesbullying.org for ticketing information.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
