Lea Salonga Will Go Back to Before at the Café Carlyle
15 May 2013
Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, who will return to Broadway in spring 2014 in the new musical Allegiance, will play the Café Carlyle May 21-June 8.
Salonga's new show, which is titled Back to Before, is a "nostalgic repertoire in which she revisits her life as a New Yorker and pays tribute to her favorite ladies—most notably Ella Fitzgerald and her idol, Barbra Streisand," according to press notes. Attendees can also expect interpretations of songs by "resilient female characters in the American musical theatre canon."
The program will be directed by Victor Lirio with original arrangements and music direction by Larry Yurman. Salonga will be joined by Jeff Harris on piano, John Miller on bass and Jack Cavari on guitar.
Show times will be Tuesdays-Saturdays at 8:45 PM with additional late shows Saturdays at 10:45 PM.
Café Carlyle is located in The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel (35 East 76th Street at Madison Avenue). There is a $75 music charge ($45 bar seating) Tuesday-Thursday and a $85 music charge ($50 bar seating) for shows on Friday and Saturday. For additional information, visit www.thecarlyle.com.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
