Leaders of Reprise Working Toward Rebirth of Los Angeles-Based Theatre Company
19 Nov 2012
Reprise Theatre Company, which had canceled its April production of The Apple Tree in order to "assess its future programming and the funding of that programming," has hired veteran theatre executive Stephen Eich.
According to a Nov. 14 letter from Reprise artistic director Jason Alexander and Board president Barbara Fodor, Eich, who was managing director and executive director of the Geffen Playhouse, will "help us chart a strong and vital future for [Reprise Theatre Company]."
In early 2013 the company will "unveil some of the new ideas" it is exploring. These ideas include "the examination of new and unique venues for our musical performances, programming that is far more diverse and engaging, and many options on how to become part of the new Reprise."
Reprise's mission is to "produce musical theatre of the highest artistic quality and to make this art form accessible to new audiences through education and outreach programs."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
