Lena Hall, Barrett Foa, Justin Guarini, Lesli Margherita to Ask "Who Is Villain: DeBlanks?"
09 Jul 2014
Villain: DeBlanks, a fill-in-the-blanks whodunnit featuring special guests from Broadway and beyond, will be presented for three performances beginning July 24 at 54 Below. The late-night event is a fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Written by Billy Mitchell, the 11:30 PM event asks the audience to provide nouns, verbs, adjectives, desserts and body parts. The evening's stars will enact the story that the audience creates "uncensored and unrehearsed" Mad Libs style.
Performances will be offered July 24, July 31 and Aug. 7.
Here's how the whodunnit is characterized: "Good news: Phillip DeBlanks is dead! He was a villain, a scoundrel and a lousy dancer. Or was he? Is it possible Phillip DeBlanks was framed by one of his circle of friends?”
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
