Life of the Party, Celebration of Songs of Andrew Lippa, to Play Menier Chocolate Factory, with Caroline O'Connor and More
11 Apr 2014
The Life of the Party, a celebration of the songs of Andrew Lippa, is to premiere at London's Menier Chocolate Factory, beginning performances May 27 prior to an official opening May 30, for a run through June 14.
The composer will himself host the concert performance of songs from his shows that include John & Jen, The Wild Party, The Addams Family, Big Fish and I Am Harvey Milk.
He will be joined by a cast that includes Caroline O'Connor (Broadway's A Christmas Story), Summer Strallen (Top Hat, Love Never Dies, The Drowsy Chaperone and The Boy Friend, for each of which she was Olivier-nominated) and Damian Humbley (Charley Kringas in Merrily We Roll Along at the Menier Chocolate Factory and then the West End's Pinter Theatre).
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
