Tony Award-winning director Jack O'Brien (The Nance) will helm Macbeth, which begins Oct. 24 and will officially Nov. 21 at the Beaumont. Hawke ("Before Midnight") will star in the title role. The two previously collaborated on the LCT productions of The Coast of Utopia and Henry IV at the Beaumont. It will have set design by Scott Pask, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Japhy Weideman and original music and sound design by Mark Bennett.
Tony Award winner James Lapine (Into the Woods, Passion, Twelve Dreams) will direct his adaptation of Moss Hart's Act One, chronicling the life of the famed playwright-director from his poor Bronx beginnings to becoming Broadway royalty. It will begin Broadway previews March 20, 2014, towards an April 17, 2014, opening night at the Beaumont.
LCT's Off-Broadway season at the Newhouse will begin with Norris' (Clybourne Park) new work Domesticated. LCT commissioned the play about politics and gender that will star Tony Award nominee Laurie Metcalf (The Other Place). Tony Award winner Anna D. Shapiro (A Parallelogram, August: Osage County) will direct Domesticated, which begins previews Oct. 10 towards a Nov. 4 opening night in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater.
The play will have sets by Todd Rosenthal, costumes by Jennifer von Mayrhauser, lighting by James Ingalls and sound design by John Gromada.
Also planned is the premiere of novelist-playwright Anthony Giardina's The City of Conversation, directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes (Doubt, The Whipping Man). Previews are to begin April 10, 2014, at the Newhouse prior to a May 5, 2014, opening night.
According to LCT, "The City of Conversation tells the story of a political hostess, Hester Ferris, a behind the scenes mover and shaker in Washington, D.C., and of the political gains and personal losses that her choices inflict on her family over a period of 30 years, from the waning days of the Carter administration to the beginning of the Obama presidency."
Programming for the Claire Tow Theater, which presents new works from LCT3, will be announced at a later date.
