The current London production of Grease will end its run at the West End's Piccadilly Theatre April 30, 2011, after a run of over 1,300 performances since it opened in July 2007. It will immediately hit the road, beginning a new national tour at Edinburgh's Playhouse May 6. Full tour dates and casting for the tour are yet to be announced.

For its final London stand, Lauren Samuels, the Over the Rainbow finalist who is making her West End debut as Sandy, will be newly joined beginning Sept. 27 by Matthew Goodgame as Danny. Goodgame was the winner of a previous reality TV show, Channel 4's Musicality to play the lead role of Billy Flynn in the West End production of Chicago for one night.

During its current run at the Piccadilly Theatre, Grease has been seen by over 1¼ million theatregoers, and set the record for the longest-running show in the Piccaddily Theatre's history.

In a press statement, producer David Ian commented, "This has been the 4th London run in seventeen years for this amazing production and the longest ever running show at The Piccadilly Theatre. Now we’re taking everyone’s favorite show right across the UK on its greatest tour ever – Grease is indeed the word!"
