Slee, a 16-year-old actor who previously appeared as Merlin in Camelot at Casa Mańana, will star as Peter in the Broadway classic that has music by Morris Charlap and Jule Styne, with lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, Betty Comden and Adolph Green.
The musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1954, was written as a vehicle for Mary Martin. Since then the title role has been played by such actresses as Sandy Duncan and Cathy Rigby. While it is not unheard of for male actors to take on the central role of Peter, most stagings cast a woman to play the role.
A representative for Casa Mañana told Playbill.com that some of Peter's music in the production will be transposed for a male performer.
Peter Pan features such songs as "I'm Flying," "I've Gotta Crow," "I Won't Grow Up" and "Never Never Land."
The beloved musical has also been selected by NBC to be presented this holiday season as the network's next televised musical event. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have not revealed whether they will cast a male or female actor as Peter Pan.
Casa Mañana's Peter Pan will also include David Coffee as Captain Hook, Emma Colwell as Wendy and Greg Dulcie as Smee.
Also featured will be Paul T. Taylor, Julie Rhodes, Stefanie Tovar, Ryan Page, Matthew Brandon, Alyssa Robbins, Clinton Greenspan, Lindy Jones, Sarah Youngblood, Theodore Morris, Hunter Hall, MJ Martinez, Grace Moore, Ally Ramsey, Tanner Garmon, Ashton Miramontes, Emily Hensley, David Midkiff, Stephen Newton, Brandon Shreve, Chet Monday, Camryn Wright, Javier Casanova and Addie Morales.
