05 Apr 2013
The line-up for this year's Olivier Awards, being held April 28 at London's Royal Opera House and being broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 and in an edited highlights package on ITV1, will include guest solo performances by Matthew Morrison (marking the first time he has ever performed at a major event in the U.K.), Idina Menzel and Petula Clark.
Amongst the nominees for awards, there will also be performances by Will Young (joined by the company of Cabaret, in which he recently starred in the West End) and Heather Headley (performing "I Will Always Love You" from The Bodyguard).
In addition, the full companies of A Chorus Line and Top Hat will perform specially created pieces for the awards night, and James Bourne will give a performance from Loserville, the Olivier-nominated show he wrote the score of. Further show extracts are still to be announced.
In Covent Garden Piazza, the BBC Radio 2 Stage will be hosted by Claudia Winkleman and Michael Xavier with performances from West End shows, other entertainment and the full ceremony live on big screens.
As previously announced, Hugh Bonneville and Sheridan Smith will host proceedings with voiceover by Julia McKenzie.
The BBC Concert Orchestra will be playing live for all performances under the musical direction of David Charles Abell.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
