Theatregoers in New York City will be able to see all five musicals screened at Chelsea Cinemas in the coming months.
The NYC schedule follows:
Memphis (Oct. 9 at 7 PM). Starring Tony Award nominees Chad Kimball as Huey and Montego Glover as Felicia, the musical about an interracial love affair in the 1950s segregated South is flavored with gospel, R&B, rock and soul sounds. Memphis won four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Original Score (David Bryan and Joe DiPietro), Best Book (DiPietro) and Best Orchestrations (Bryan and Daryl Waters). Christopher Ashley directed the stage production.
Smokey Joe's Café (Oct 23 at 7 PM). Ken Ard, Adrian Bailey and Matt Bogart star in the revue that features the songs of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Songs included are "Jailhouse Rock," "Hound Dog," Stand By Me," On Broadway" and more. Jerry Zaks directed the stage production.
Jekyll & Hyde (Nov. 20 at 7 PM). David Hasselhoff stars as Dr. Henry Jekyll/Edward Hyde in the gothic rock-pop musical by Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic thriller. Songs in the musical are "This Is the Moment," "A New Life" and "Someone Like You."
Duke Ellington's Sophisticated Ladies (Dec. 4 at 7 PM). Phyllis Hyman, Hinton Battle and Paula Kelly star. The production features the Duke Ellington Orchestra under the direction of Mercer Ellington and such songs as "Don't Get Around Much Anymore," "Hit Me With a Hot Note and Watch Me Bounce," "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," "In a Sentimental Mood" and more.
