British director Deborah Warner, who will stage The Testament of Mary on Broadway this season starring Fiona Shaw, will helm a new production of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin that will premiere Sept. 23. The Live in HD broadcast will take place Oct. 5.
Sher, who collaborated with Lucas on the Tony-winning musical The Light in the Piazza, will helm Two Boys, featuring a score by Muhly (Dark Sisters) and a libretto by Lucas, which premieres Oct. 21. According to the Met, "Two Boys explores the shadowy world of the internet as a detective takes on what initially seems to be to be a straightforward case — the stabbing of one teenage boy by another — and discovers a tangled web of online intrigue."
Also of note is a new staging of Die Fledermaus, featuring lyrics and direction by Jeremy Sams and new dialogue by Beane (The Nance, Cinderella, Xanadu, The Little Dog Laughed). Paulo Szot (South Pacific) will be part of the cast for the production that is set in Vienna at the turn of the 20th century. It will begin performances Dec. 31.
Season plans also include Giuseppe Verdi's Falstaff, beginning Dec. 14, 2013; and Alexander Borodin's Prince Igor, beginning March 1, 2014.
