Veteran stage and screen actor Michael Gambon will become part of a British television tradition when he guest stars on this year's "Doctor Who Christmas Special," according to BBC Online.
Classical singer Katherine Jenkins will also appear on the special, marking her acting debut.
The special, adapted from the popular science-fiction series that is a long-running hit in the U.K., will star Matthew Smith as Doctor Who and follow Who's assistant, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her new husband Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) on their honeymoon.
Gambon holds Olivier Awards for his work in A Chorus of Disapproval, A View from the Bridge and Man of the Moment, a Tony nomination for his performance in Skylight and Emmy nominations for his performances in "Path to War" and this year's "Emma." He is also known for portraying Albus Dumbledore in the "Harry Potter" films.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
