Mostly Sondheim Will Honor Elaine Stritch Tonight July 18
18 Jul 2014
Mostly Sondheim, the long-running musical theater open mic event at The Duplex Cabaret (61 Christopher Street), will celebrate Elaine Stritch with a special tribute tonight, July 18 at 11:30 PM.
The evening will pay tribute to the Broadway and screen legend, Stritch, who passed July 17 of natural causes. Known for her spunk, salty attitude and incomparable charisma, guests at the Duplex will be invited to raise a glass and sing their favorite musical theatre standards in her honor.
According to press notes, "host Colleen Harris will be joined by special guest host Molly Pope, musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes and guest performers including Ben Rimalower, Adam Feldman, Rob Maitner, and Anthony Fett."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
