Motown's Morgan James Will Sing Soul at SubCulture
22 Aug 2014
Morgan James, who was seen on Broadway in Godspell and Motown, will play SubCulture Sept. 3.
The 8 PM intimate performance will feature music from her debut studio album "Hunter," which was released June 3 on Epic Records and features original soul tunes.
"I want people to walk away from this album feeling fulfilled," said James of "Hunter." "That's the way it used to be. Often, I think I'm from another time. I just want to bring back the power of the singular legacy voice."
James has also been seen on Broadway in Wonderland and The Addams Family.
Her performance will be followed by back-to-back sets from Irish artist Julie Feeney Sept. 5-6 (7:30 PM and 10 PM).
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
