Nature Theater of Oklahoma's 10-Hour Theatrical Marathon, Life and Times, Begins Under the Radar Festival Run Jan. 16
16 Jan 2013
The Soho Rep production of the Nature Theater of Oklahoma's marathon work, Life and Times: Episodes 1-4, which is staged as part of the Public Theater's 2013 Under the Radar Festival, begins its limited Off-Broadway run Jan. 16.
Life and Times: Episodes 1-4, a co-production of Nature Theater of Oklahoma and Burgtheater Wien, runs through Feb. 2 as part of the Public Theater's annual Under the Radar Festival. The 10-hour production is based on a conversation with actress Kristin Worrall, and can be seen in episodes or on weekend marathon presentations.
Conceived and directed by Nature Theater of Oklahoma artistic directors Pavol Liska and Kelly Copper, Life and Times, according to the creators, "charts one unremarkable person's account of their life, navigating a deep map of memory, from their earliest recollections through present day. The libretto of the work, which will ultimately comprise ten episodes, is a verbatim transcript of ten recorded phone conversations in which the person told their story. Life and Times continues the exploration Nature Theater of Oklahoma has pursued since No Dice: using casual, real-life speech and storytelling as the text for innovative theatrical works, thereby making something extraordinary out of the ordinary."
The cast includes Ilan Bachrach, Elisabeth Conner, Gabel Eiben, Anne Gridley, Robert M. Johanson, Matthew Korahais, Julie LaMendola, Alison Weisgall and Kristin Worrall.
Life and Times has dramaturgy by Florian Malzacher, design by Peter Nigrini and original music by Robert M. Johanson, Julie LaMendola and Daniel Gower.
