Alessandrini, who will write and direct the production, told the Times, "We've been kicking around the idea of bringing Forbidden Broadway back to New York for a while, and when I took a look at the Tony nominations last week, I knew it was definitely time. We were away for more than three years, and during that time there was so much material that came and went – so many missed opportunities for great numbers. I really couldn't take it any longer. So we're coming back."
It was in a September 2008 statement that Alessandrini said, "With the changing of the artistic climate on Broadway, I felt the next couple of seasons might be a perfect time to take a break. I've just put together a new edition that I feel succinctly encapsulates the last couple of years on Broadway and I thought this would be a positive and fun way to end our 27-year run. However, I do hope we might bring Forbidden Broadway back to New York at some point down the road when there will be plenty of new shows and stars to spoof."
The new edition will include spoofs of Ghost The Musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, Once, Newsies, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, Evita, The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, Follies, End of the Rainbow, Clybourne Park, Other Desert Cities, Death of a Salesman, The Book of Mormon, Anything Goes, Sister Act and more.
The 47th Street Theatre is located in Manhattan at 304 West 47th Street.
