New Musical Himself and Nora, Featuring Matt Bogart and Jessica Burrows, in Recording Studio Oct. 15-16
15 Oct 2012
JAY Records records the cast album of Jonathan Brielle's Himself and Nora, which was part of the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival and is billed as "a musical tale of one of the greatest romances of the 20th century," Oct. 15-16.
The Festival cast, which included Matt Bogart (Jersey Boys) as Himself, literary genius James Joyce; and Jessica Burrows (Doctor Zhivago) as the devoted chambermaid Nora with J.B. Wing, David Arthur and Brian Sills, record the score Oct. 15-16 in Manhattan. A spring release date is expected.
"In this bawdy and funny, uplifting, and melodic new musical," press notes state, "Himself and Nora sings the story of one of the great love affairs of the time. A love which resulted in their exile from their beloved Ireland, the condemnation of the Catholic church, and ultimately some of the greatest writing of the 20th century."
Michael Bush directed the New York Musical Theatre Festival production.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
