Next to Normal, Next Fall, A Minister's Wife Among San Jose Rep's 2012-13 Season
11 Feb 2012
San Jose Repertory Theatre's artistic director Rick Lombardo has announced San Jose Rep's 2012-13 season, which begins Aug. 30 with the world premiere of Jonathan Marc Feldman's The Death of the Novel.
The world premiere, directed by Lombardo, will continue through Sept. 23. Here's how the show is billed: "A brilliant young novelist, coping with great personal loss in the aftermath of 9/11, goes into seclusion in his Manhattan apartment, refusing to write again. A mysterious and beautiful stranger intrudes, telling incredible stories of her own. Is she yet another fan of his work, or is she something else entirely? This play is about finding the tenacity to thrive in a dangerous, unpredictable world, and to create again."
Following The Death of the Novel will be the Bay Area premiere of Freud’s Last Session by Mark St. Germain. The production, directed by Stephen Wrentmore, is co-produced with the Arizona Theatre Company and will run Oct. 11-Nov. 4.
The 2012-13 season will also include Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, directed by Lombardo and featuring original music by Anna Lackaff and Lombardo (Nov. 21-Dec. 23); the Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal, directed by David Ira Goldstein in a co-production with the Arizona Theatre Company (Jan. 10-Feb. 3, 2013); the Bay Area premiere of Geoffrey Nauffts' Next Fall (May 9-June 2, 2013); and the West Coast premiere of A Minister's Wife, conceived and directed by Michael Halberstam (June 20-July 14, 2013).
