Night of a Thousand Judys Benefit to Celebrate "The Wizard of Oz"
28 Feb 2014
The fourth annual Night of a Thousand Judys, the benefit that celebrates all things Judy Garland, will return June 16 with a tribute to the 75th anniversary of "The Wizard of Oz" at Merkin Concert Hall.
Presented as part of Justin Sayre's series The Meeting*, the annual event serves as a benefit for the Ali Forney Center and its mission to assist LGBT homeless youth.
Jason Wise will direct and choreograph the evening that will "honor the iconic Judy Garland with special skits, tributes and songs from her legendary career as movie star, recording artist and stage performer." Expect a special tribute to "The Wizard of Oz" as well.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
