NY Pops Gala, Featuring Stephanie J. Block, Will Chase, Megan Hilty, Leslie Uggams and More, Plays Carnegie Hall
29 Apr 2013
Broadway stars of today celebrate three Broadway icons of yesteryear — namely, songwriters Frank Loesser and Jule Styne and actor Danny Kaye — at the April 29 gala performance celebrating the 30th anniversary of the New York Pops.
Dena Kaye said in a previous statement, "I am thrilled and so very touched, that the New York Pops has chosen my father, Danny Kaye, to honor at their 30th Birthday at Carnegie Hall, as we continue a year-long tribute of the Danny Kaye Centennial. As my father was born and raised in New York, this is the perfect celebration for a man who has brought his laughter and joy to generations through his talent as an actor, singer, dancer, conductor, comedian and humanitarian."
The New York Pops are also joined by the Ronald McDonald House Rockin' the House Band and Chorus, Camp Broadway Kids and The New York Pops Salute to Music Students.
The gala celebration includes an online auction on CharityBuzz.com/NewYorkPops through May 2, featuring items donated by the orchestra's many friends from the world of arts and entertainment. All gala and auction proceeds support the orchestra and its free education programs throughout New York City.
Single tickets for the concert-only are $62, $95 and $155. To purchase, call CarnegieCharge at (212) 247-7800, or visit the Carnegie Hall Box Office in person at 57th Street and 7th Avenue or online at carnegiehall.org.
The New York Pops is the largest independent pops orchestra in the United States, and the only professional symphonic orchestra in New York City specializing in popular music. Led by music director Steven Reineke, the orchestra performs an annual subscription series at Carnegie Hall. The New York Pops' annual birthday gala is celebrated each spring, raising funds for the orchestra and its education programs.
