Obie Winner and Tony Nominee Will Heat Up the Jacuzzi at Ars Nova Sept. 30
13 Aug 2014
Ars Nova has announced casting for the world premiere of the Debate Society's Jacuzzi – directed by Obie winner Oliver Butler and starring Tony nominee Peter Friedman (Ragtime) – to begin previews Sept. 30.
The production will have an official opening Oct. 13 and a run through Nov. 1 at Ars Nova (511 W. 54th Street).
Joining Friedman are Hannah Bos (The Open House at Signature Theatre), Chris Lowell (“Private Practice,” “Veronica Mars”) and Paul Thureen.
The Debate Society, comprised of long-term collaborators Bos, Butler and Thureen, has been Ars Nova’s Company-in-Residence since 2012 and received a commission as well as ongoing developmental support to create Jacuzzi.
Here's how it's billed: "In the Marshall family's peacefully remote Colorado ski chalet, Erik (Thureen) and Helene (Bos) are making themselves very much at home. So at home, they just might stay for good. At the edge of civilization, the lifestyles of the rich collide with the lifestyles of the aimless in the bubbling waters of a hot tub."
Jacuzzi will include scenic design by Laura Jellinek, costume design by Jessica Ford, lighting design by Bradley King, sound design by M.L. Dogg and prop design by Noah Mease.
Tickets go on sale Sept. 3 and begin at $15 for special preview pricing, $35 for all regular performances.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
