Olivier Award-Winning Musical Our House to Be Reprised for 10th Anniversary West End Concert
24 Sep 2012
Our House, which won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical for its original run at the West End's Cambridge Theatre in 2002, is to be reprised for a 10th anniversary concert. It will be held at the Savoy Theatre Nov. 11.
Matthew Warchus and Rob Howell, the show's original director and designer, will reunite to re-stage it. Built around the songs of British pop band Madness, folded into an original book by playwright and screenwriter Tim Firth, the score features such hits as "Baggy Trousers," "My Girl," "Embarrassment," "The Sun and The Rain," "Driving In My Car," "The Wings of a Dove," "Night Boat to Cairo" and "It Must Be Love," alongside the title track "Our House."
Madness frontman Suggs will be featured in a company that will reunite many original West End cast members. The show, set in Camden, tells the story of Joe Casey, his mates, his girlfriend Sarah and the night he commits a petty crime to impress her. It follows the two paths his life would take if he stays to face the music when the police appear on the scene or if he makes a run for it.
In a press statement, Warchus commented, "What a great pleasure it is to be revisiting one of my all-time favourite projects for this charity concert version. I can't wait to unpack it again. It must be love, indeed." Firth added, "Our House remains one of the proudest achievements of my career, and one of my happiest collaborations."
The event is being produced by David Adkin in aid of Help for Heroes. The creative team will also include musical supervision by James Draisey, lighting by Jonathan Rouse, sound by Simon Baker and video/Projection/Animation by Andrzej Goulding.
