Sir Ian McKellen hosts Only Make Believe's 14th Annual Gala, which is entitled Make Believe On Broadway, Nov. 4 at 7 PM at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
The evening honors Oscar winner Susan Sarandon, who will receive the Sir Ian McKellen Award for her philanthropy and activism, and Dr. Alex Karp, who will be presented with the Founders’ Award for his outstanding commitment to philanthropic causes.
Only Make Believe is a non-profit organization that "creates and performs interactive theatre for children in hospitals and care facilities. They are dedicated to the principle that freeing a child's imagination is a valuable part of the healing process."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
