Original Python Star Michael Palin to Play God (On Screen) in West End's Monty Python's Spamalot
20 Aug 2013
Original "Monty Python" star Michael Palin will star as God in Monty Python's Spamalot as part of the show's "The Summer of Spamalot Charity Gods" initiative, in which a rotating round of celebrities are filming the part of God to be shown at each performance for a week at a time at the West End's Playhouse Theatre to benefit a charity of their choosing.
According to press materials, "Palin has decided to 'fart in the general direction' of fellow Python legend Eric Idle" to appear in the role of God during the week of Aug. 26, stepping into the heavenly robes previously worn by Hugh Bonneville, Barbara Windsor, Bradley Walsh, Simon Callow and Christopher Biggins, who have also filmed the role of God, sending Idle down the pub during the warmer months. Palin's nominated charity is Action for Stammering Children.
Palin will be followed beginning Sept. 2 by Larry Lamb, with further celebrity weeks to be announced.
