In a video interview interview with the Los Angeles Times, Lange responded to a question about returning to theatre, saying, "Yes. Absolutely. In fact, we are going to do a production... about ten, no 12 years ago now, I did a production of what is probably my favorite play ever, of all time, Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night. And I am planning on doing that sometime in the next year, year and a half, back on Broadway."
Lange previously played the role of Mary Tyrone in a 2000 production of Eugene O'Neill's familial drama in London, receiving an Olivier Award nomination for her performance as the morphine-addicted mother.
"You know, it's wonderful when you are able to create this character and then revisit it years later," she said. "Mary Tyrone is maybe my favorite character that — well, Blanche DuBois and Mary Tyrone — are my favorite characters that I have ever, ever played."
