The Pittsburgh CLO summer production of the Lionel Bart musical Oliver!, starring Patrick Page, Kate Shindle, Mark Indelicato and Joseph Serafini, picks a pocket or two, starting June 1.
Richard Stafford directs and choreograph Oliver!, which runs through June 6 at the Benedum Center. Craig Barna music directs the production with lighting design by John McClain.
Newcomer Serafini stars in the title role, with Page (The Grinch, The Lion King) as Fagin, Shindle (Legally Blonde) as Nancy and Indelicato ("Ugly Betty") as the Artful Dodger.
The cast also features Christian Whelan (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) as Bill Sykes, John Treacy Egan (The Little Mermaid) as Mr. Bumble, Jeff Howell as Mr. Brownlow, Robin Lounsbury as Widow Corney, Gene Seraceni as Dr. Grimwig and 32 students from the Pittsburgh CLO Academy.
Bart's 1963 musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist" earned a Tony Award for Best Composer and Lyricist. The popular musical includes the songs "As Long As He Needs Me," "Where Is Love?," "Food, Glorious Food," "Consider Yourself" and "Who Will Buy?"
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
