Phantom's Sierra Boggess, "Project Runway" Designer and More Join a Thousand Judys, Featuring Rory O'Malley, Julia Murney
19 May 2014
Sierra Boggess (The Phantom of the Opera), Austin Scarlett (“Project Runway”), 60s pop singer Karen Wyman, two-time Tony Award nominee Alison Fraser, Jackie Hoffman (Hairspray) and jazz violinist Aaron Weinstein have joined the lineup for the fourth annual Night of a Thousand Judys, which will take place June 16 at Merkin Concert Hall.
Presented as part of Justin Sayre's series The Meeting*, the annual event serves as a benefit for the Ali Forney Center and its mission to assist LGBT homeless youth.
As previously announced, Jason Wise will direct and choreograph the evening that will "honor the iconic Judy Garland with special skits, tributes and songs from her legendary career as movie star, recording artist and stage performer." Expect a special tribute to "The Wizard of Oz" as well.
The 8 PM concert will also feature Grammy Award winner Jane Monheit, Tony nominee Rory O'Malley (Book of Mormon) and Julia Murney (Wicked), as well as R&B singer Sarah Dash, folk-rock performer Erin McKeown and Gabrielle Stravelli.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
