PHOTO ARCHIVE: "Hey, Old Friend!" Looking Back at Merrily We Roll Along
16 Nov 2012
The original Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's Merrily We Roll Along officially opened on Nov. 16, 1981. Here, we take a look back at that Merrily, some subsequent productions and the 2002 cast reunion.
The show played the Alvin Theatre, in a production staged by Harold Prince, running 52 previews and 16 performances.
The cast featured Jim Walton (Franklin Shepard), Lonny Price (Charley), Ann Morrison (Mary), Terry Finn (Gussie), Jason Alexander (Joe) and Sally Klein (Beth).
Deaf West’s production of SPRING AWAKENING floored the critics when it premiered in California, prompting the Los Angeles Times to write, "It's hard to enumerate all the ways in which Deaf West's SPRING AWAKENING is so very, very good." Now this unapologetically brilliant new production is coming to New York.
