PHOTO CALL: Avenue Q Set Gets Frosted on "Ace of Cakes"
27 Mar 2008
Avenue Q's set design was recreated in a sweet form on Food Network's "Ace of Cakes."
Cast and crew of the current touring company of the Jeff Marx-Robert Lopez-Jeff Whitty musical comedy were filmed for an episode of the baking competition show in which Chef Duff Goldman unveiled a customized Avenue Q cake. His inspiration was the show's streetscape scenic design by Anna Louizos. The backstage was also sweetly preserved in miniature.
The episode, shot while the road company was at Baltimore's Hippodrome Theatre, will air on the cable network March 27 at 10:30 PM (ET). Check your local listings.
Playbill.com got a sneak look at the iced homage to the stage show's facade:

Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
