Old Jews Telling Jokes, starring Bill Army, Marilyn Sokol, Lenny Wolpe and more, began previews May 1 prior to an official opening May 20 at Off-Broadway's Westside Theatre.
Directed by Marc Bruni, the company also features Todd Susman and Audrey Lynn Weston.
The production, according to press notes, "showcases five actors in a revue that pays tribute to and reinvents classic jokes of the past and present. Think you’ve heard them all before? Not this way. The show also features comic songs — brand-new and satisfyingly old — as well as tributes to some of the giants of the comedy world and to the brilliant raconteurs from OldJewsTellingJokes.com, the website that inspired the show."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
