Billy Elliot celebrated its 1.5 millionth audience member on June 22 with a curtain speech and a special gift, which went to lucky audience member Caty Dougherty from Philadelphia.
As patrons entered the theatre on June 22, their tickets were scanned by house staff, and it was determined that the lucky 1.5 millionth patron was seated in seat Q13. Caty Dougherty, the occupant of that seat, was given a Billy Elliot merchandise package along with other gifts and was invited onstage with the cast after curtain call.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
