Cougar the Musical, which is directed by Tony nominee Lynne Taylor-Corbett, officially opened in its Off-Broadway premiere Aug. 26 at 2 PM following previews that began Aug. 10 at St. Luke's Theatre.
The open-ended production features Danny Bernardy, Brenda Braxton, Catherine Porter and Babs Winn.
Cougar The Musical, which was penned by Donna Moore, "unleashes three divine but disillusioned women who develop a taste for hot, young men," according to production notes. "They let their inner cougar roar and purr, finding self-love and empowerment in the process. The sexy, ferocious cast of three fabulous-over-40 women and one multi-talented boy toy sing and dance their way through a satiating range of original songs, from grinding blues, to doo-wop, to pop to 'Julio' — a romantic ballad, sung to a vibrator."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
