Led by Wicked co-star Ben Vereen, the Broadway theatre community came together to sing and dance their way through a benefit concert on Sept. 25 to raise money for the residents of the Gulf Coast of the United States.
That region has been hit by two powerful hurricanes – first Katrina, then Rita — in recent weeks. Held at Wicked’s current home, the Gershwin Theatre, the performers included an A-list line-up that would have made any fan of Broadway drool.
At left, Lennon’s Julia Murney, former Wicked Tony winner Idina Menzel and director Joe Mantello, as well as Dagmara Dominczyk and Patrick Wilson are seen backstage during the concert. Below, Vereen and Liza Minelli lead the curtain call for the "Broadway Celebrity Benefit for Hurricane Relief" at the Gershwin on West 51st Street in New York City.

Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
