Tony winner Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, The Addams Family) adapted the 2004 adventure novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson into the fast-paced stage production that takes audiences to the birth of the Peter Pan legend. Disney Theatrical Productions commissioned the work.
The 192-page book includes the complete script with commentary and insight about the characters and scenes from the creative team. Barry and Pearson offer a foreword to the book, which also includes a look at the development and production history of Peter and the Starcatcher by Ken Cerniglia. Numerous color photos and production sketches of the Broadway production are also included.
Additional highlights include Tony-nominated scenic designer Donyale Werle's vision for the design of the Starcatcher proscenium, as well as cut scenes from the various stages of the play's development. The cast and creative team also share their childhood wishes as the closing chapter of the book.
Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers and Tony winner Roger Rees (The Addams Family, Nicholas Nickleby) co-direct the music-filled production that features songs by Tony nominee Wayne Barker.
Peter and the Starcatcher opened to rave reviews April 15 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre following a 2011 extended Off-Broadway run at the New York Theatre Workshop. A U.S. national tour will launch in August 2013.
The Broadway cast is led by Tony Award nominee and "Smash" star Christian Borle (Legally Blonde, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Spamalot) as devious pirate Black Stache, with Tony nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger (Merrily We Roll Along, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Les Miserables, Bachelorette) as Molly and Adam Chanler-Berat (Next to Normal, Rent) as Boy.
Steven Hoggett (American Idiot, Black Watch, Once) created the movement for the production, which has set design by Bloody Bloody Tony nominee Donyale Werle, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Darron L West and musical direction by Marco Paguia.
