Tony Award nominee and "American Idol" star Constantine Maroulis headlined Life Upon the Wicked Stage: Broadway's Greatest Villains, Thieves and Ladies of the Evening, a benefit gala at the Bickford Theatre, June 9 in New Jersey.
The annual Bickford fundraiser saluted "those unforgettable characters you love to loathe from such Broadway classics as Sweeney Todd, The Phantom of the Opera, Oliver!, Jekyll & Hyde, Damn Yankees, Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and the Beast, The Wild Party, The Little Mermaid, Man of La Mancha, Hairspray and more."
Maroulis was joined by Ron Bohmer (Ragtime, The Scarlet Pimpernel), Courtney Balan ([title of show]), Marc G. Dalio (Beauty and the Beast), Donna English (Ruthless!, Lend Me A Tenor), Amy Griffin (Newsical, Forbidden Broadway), Rob Richardson (A Tale of Two Cities), Matthew Shepard (Wonderful Town), Bess Morrison, Julie Waldman-Stiel and Rick Delaney.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
