PHOTO CALL: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes: An Intimate Conversation with Carol Channing and Justin Vivian Bond Plays Town Hall
21 Jan 2014
Tony Award-winning Hello, Dolly! star Carol Channing joins Tony nominee Justin Vivian Bond for a one-night-only night of music and celebration at Town Hall Jan. 20. The show was originally seen in Fire Island last summer as part of Daniel Nardicio’s “Icon Series."
The 8 PM evening coincided with the 50th anniversary of Jerry Herman's Tony-winning musical Hello, Dolly! on Broadway. It also took place one week prior to Channing's 93rd birthday.
The event, which promised celebrity tributes, was produced by Daniel Nardicio. Bond (Kiki & Herb) also offered "love songs for Carol" prior to their conversation.
In addition to her 1964 Tony for playing Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly!, Channing received a Special Tony in 1968 and a Lifetime Achievement Tony in 1995. Her other major Broadway credit is creating the role of golddigger Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She would sing the character's signature songs "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "A Little Girl From Little Rock" for the next 60 years in nightclubs, concerts and on TV. She is also the subject of the documentary film "Carol Channing: Larger Than Life."
