Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris is currently offering French audiences Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park with George. The Georges Seurat inspired piece will play the famed venue through April 25.
Set in the city where Georges Seurat (who inspired the musical) was born and died, the production, with new orchestrations by Michael Starobin, is presented in English with French subtitles.
The cast also features Sophie-Louise Dann (Lend Me a Tenor, Jolson) as Dot/Marie, Rebecca de Pont Davies as Old Lady/Elaine, David Curry as Solider/Redmond, Beverly Klein as Yvonne/Blair, Rebecca Bottone as Celeste 1/Betty, Francesca Jackson as Celeste 2/Billy, Nicholas Garrett as Boatman/Dennis, Damian Thantrey as Franz/Randolph, Jessica Walker as Nurse/Harriet, Jonathan Gunthorpe as Louis/Alex and Christine Buffle as Frieda/Noemie. Here's a look at the production:
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
